Featured artist Micah Ganske (issue #2) has unveiled a painting from his newest series entitled Tomorrow Land. This series examines aspirational technology and the devastation that lies in the wake of progress. This painting is a 14 foot piece painted with stain on muslin and will be on display at RH Gallery in Manhattan (137 Duane Street between West Broadway and Church)
Micah was kind enough to invite Ben and Thomas Nicholas to his Long Island City studio last month to see this work in progress. Among many topics, we discussed the marginalization of nature in contemporary culture, the factory art process and a bit of art world/celebrity gossip. The interview in full can be found in The New Heroes Issue 2. Also look for Micah’s featured page at The New Heroes here for more on the artists work. Micah plans several more paintings for this series, including depictions of Love Canal, New York Centralia, Pennsylvania and Pitcher, Ohio; all areas that have been laid waste by man made environmental disasters. The implications of this series are exciting and complex and we look forward to more from him in the future.
